About the Client:

The Billion Dollar Roundtable was created in 2001 to recognize and celebrate corporations that achieve spending of at least one billion dollars with minority- and female-owned suppliers. The BDR promotes and shares best practices in supply chain diversity excellence through its extensive network, white papers, and events. Comprised of some of the nation’s leading Fortune 100 companies, the BDR encourages corporate entities to continue growing their supplier diversity programs by increasing commitment and spending levels each year.

Goal:

Each year the BDR hosts an annual conference for its Fortune 100 members, selected supplier partners, and thought leaders. Ignition was tasked with producing the two-day event (receptions, panel discussions, breakout sessions) and managing all of the surrounding communication.

Business Challenge:

Ignition was challenged with producing and curating this significant, bi-annual conference which plays host to hundreds of high-level corporate officers and employees and with attracting relevant and engaging speakers and sponsorship partners. The challenge here came from answering to three clients, as the event was hosted by Chrysler, General Motors, and Ford.

Ignition Execution:

Ignition was responsible for overall event production and logistics management. Our team oversaw every aspect of the two-day event including sourcing and managing audio/visual, food and beverage, and transportation and entertainment partners. Ignition was also responsible for sponsorship development and speaker solicitation. In addition to logistics management and on-site production support, Ignition designed and developed all event creative including program booklets, electronic event invitations, Detroit-themed speaker gifts, and gift bags that included a custom-curated arrangement of Motown sounds. Ignition CEO, Dennis Archer, Jr., leveraged his personal relationships to secure appearances from philanthropist and Grammy-winning singer and producer, will.i.am, Quicken Loans CEO Dan Gilbert, and NBC’s Rhonda Walker, who served as the event’s mistress of ceremonies.

Results:

More than 250 Fortune 100 corporate leaders and entrepreneurs attended the summit. Feedback from the post-event attendee questionnaire yielded an overwhelming number of positive responses. Attendees cited the 2013 summit as the best they had attended in the 12-year history of the event. Most importantly for our client’s bottom line, the event came in under budget making it an even bigger success for the Billion Dollar Roundtable organization.
